The Sixty-Nine Days · claim M18
The man at the center of the retail pipeline was buying, not selling. On September 1, 2, and 3, 2026, six days after OpenAI published its full account of the incident, Sohail Prasad, president, chief executive and a director of Destiny Tech100, bought 56,000 shares of his own fund on the open market: 33,000 at a weighted average of $31.40, 13,240 at $31.53, and 9,760 at $32.14, about $1.77 million in all. His direct holding went from 8,000 shares to 64,000. He signed the form on September 3 and it was filed on September 8. Destiny's chief operating officer, Ethan Silver, became a reporting insider on August 26, the day OpenAI published, and bought 753 shares at $33.19 on August 31.

Who read it
joe, EDGAR direct 2026-09-11, read from the XML fields: transaction code P, acquired-disposed flag A, direct ownership. The filing's weighted-average footnotes use the word 'sold' while the coded fields say purchased and acquired; the document resolves its own wording, because the shares-owned-following column rises 8,000 to 41,000 to 54,240 to 64,000 across the three days, and nobody finishes holding more of a share by selling it. Each footnote's price range also brackets the weighted average reported beside it, so the footnotes describe these same three purchases. The filing sits under Destiny's own CIK, 1843974. Prasad also reports indirect holdings of 702,065 and 1,125 shares. This cuts against the simplest version of our own reading, and we publish it for that reason: the executive best placed to know what Destiny's OpenAI position is worth put $1.77 million of his own money into the fund a week after the incident was fully public.
