Hugging Face disclosed an intrusion by an unknown actor on July 16. On July 17, OpenAI contacted Hugging Face as a customer, not yet knowing its own agents were the attacker. Attribution came on July 20, when credentials in the agents' staging account matched ones Hugging Face had already rotated.
