Reuters reported on September 4, citing two people familiar with the matter, that OpenAI officials had learned of the wiki incident weeks earlier 'but kept it under wraps as executives grappled with the fallout' from the Hugging Face breach, and, citing four people, that an internal probe 'met resistance from others inside OpenAI, including legal advisers.' OpenAI's spokesperson told Reuters: 'Claims that our legal team discouraged investigation of the incident are false,' said the German activity 'wasn't related to Hugging Face and wouldn't have been included in a Hugging Face incident report,' and said the company had acted in good faith. Before publication the spokesperson said OpenAI could not respond to a report it had not been allowed to review.
